FREE HOME CARE
CAMPAIGN 1
Our vision is a National Care Service that places social care on an equal footing with the NHS, with free home care at it's heart. We believe that home care should not be viewed simply as a private act of love performed by families but as a collective responsibility that we all share. Just as Aneurin Bevan drew inspiration for the NHS from the local model of the Tredegar Medical Aid Society founded in his hometown, we look to the pioneering free home care model established in Hammersmith and Fulham in 1991 by the late Iain Coleman MP.
Torridge & Tavistock chair, Emma has been working alongside Iain's widow, Dame Sally Powell, John McDonnell MP, campaign author, Rebecca Brocklebank and CEO of Hallmark Foundation, Stephen Burke to bring this vision to life during the current parliamentary term.

SPIRIT OF 45
CAMPAIGN 2
Unaffordable and unavailable housing is arguably the single, most powerful determinant of economic stagnation, inequality and poverty in the UK. We now have a great opportunity to show real ambition and take a lead with the National Government, working across departments with Local Authorities and Metro-Mayors, acting as a catalyst of economic growth. We must set up manufacturing facilities to make the components for 'passivhaus' eco-design modular homes, in the most deprived areas, like here in Torridge, and with the greatest need for social housing. Doing this through Social Enterprise/ Co-operative Organisation wherever possible we skill local people to solve a local need. By building energy efficient, social homes at scale and where most needed we plug into the Labour Government's 'Renew Britain' agenda of a mission-driven, localised approach to economic renewal. Focused on providing well paid skilled jobs for future generations and restoring National pride and unity.
THE SURF EXPRESS
CAMPAIGN 3
In this part of Devon, no
town has a rail station, and our bus network
doesn't meet our needs. We have been overlooked and underfunded for decades. Without public investment in transport infrastructure to economic centres our young people will never have a future beyond low-skilled low-paid jobs in care or hospitality. We have written a policy proposal for a new train line, HS4 or as we like to call it, The Surf Express. If you live in the North of Torridge and Tavistock you face an hour and a half drive to reach the only station in our entire 770 square mile constituency. The Surf Express would provide much needed transportation to the northern coast of Devon. It would connect Bideford to Barnstaple and beyond to Exeter one way and to Torrington and beyond to Cornwall the other. This would boost our beleaguered but vital tourism industry, take cars off the A39 making the Atlantic Highway safer during peak season and provide green transport and reverse the local brain drain by opening up opportunities for our young people.
