Happy International Womens Day to all our sisters.
As well as being a day to celebrate all the fabulous women in our lives we should also reflect on what the Labour government has done for women in the last 18 months.
We’re expanding childcare with more free hours of early years ...care to support women at work, give every child the best start, and put money back in families’ pockets.
We’re going further too, putting in place wraparound support like free breakfast clubs at primary schools, and we’re reviewing parental leave because we know that the current system not only holds women back, but stops fathers playing the full part they want to play in family life.
Our Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy puts prevention at the heart of government, and we’re ensuring that we intervene early with better RSHE in schools and better healthy relationships education. We’re listening to survivors and putting experts where we need them – with domestic abuse specialists in 999 control rooms.
We’re ensuring women are paid fairly by introducing gender pay gap action plans so employers don’t just have to report their pay gaps, but what they’re doing to tackle them. And of course, our landmark Employment Rights Act strengthens protections for pregnant women at work and those returning from maternity leave.

Made in our community, by our community, for our community.

As such, I attended Iain’s memorial service earlier this year where I learnt a lot more about this incredible husband, ...father, friend, and politician.
This tribute from his lifelong friend, Andy Slaughter MP is a wonderful summation of a true Labour man who showed compassion, determination and humour in equal measure.

Arsenal fan, devoted constituency MP and champion of the poor and vulnerable, Iain Coleman was also a lover of human foibles who found humour in th...
